Apply for Financial Aid
We make it as easy as possible for you to apply for financial aid.
- Once you are enrolled for courses and have a completed FAFSA on file, you will be award financial aid. Your offer letter will be mailed to your home address and can be viewed through ODU Online. Viewing your financial aid award through ODU Online will require your ODU User ID and password.
- Your offer letter will detail all of your grant and loan eligibility for the academic year.
- You will be awarded your MAXIMUM loan eligibility. We strongly encourage you to borrow only what you need. If you want an amount less than what you are awarded, please contact our office.
- Financial aid is awarded based on your enrollment status.
1 - 5 credit hours: Less than half time
6 - 8 credit hours: Half time
9 - 11 credit hours: Three quarters time
12 + credit hours: Full time - You must be enrolled at least half time to qualify for student loans.
- If you receive your offer letter and your enrollment is not correct for any semester, please contact our office.

When should I apply for financial aid?
You can apply for financial aid anytime. However, we recommend students meet with
an admissions counselor, apply to the university and then apply for financial aid.
How long does it take to apply for financial aid?
The process from start to finish can take as few as three to four days.
How do I apply for financial aid?
First, you will create an FSA ID, if you don鈥檛 already have one. Once your FSA ID
is active, you will complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
online at .
How is my financial aid eligibility determined?
Eligibility for most types of aid is awarded on the basis of financial need. Financial
need is calculated using a cost of attendance, your Student Aid Index (SAI) from the
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and financial resources.
What types of aid are available?
Degree-seeking Adult & Continuing Education students may qualify for the Federal Pell
Grant, the Ohio College Opportunity Grant, and Federal Student Loans.
When will I receive my financial aid Offer Letter?
We will mail you an Offer Letter once you are registered and have a completed FAFSA
on file. You may also access your financial aid Offer Letter online through ODU Online.
You will need your university login and password to access ODU Online.
How much financial aid will I be awarded?
You will be awarded your maximum grant and loan eligibility based on your financial
need, class level and enrollment status. If you want an amount less than you have
been awarded, contact the Financial Aid Office.
How often do I need to apply for financial aid?
All students must reapply for financial aid every year by completing a FAFSA. The
FAFSA is available each year on October 1.
