Eliana Calle-Saari: A Life in Printmaking

A native of Colombia and ODU’s newest faculty member in its Art and Design department, Eliana Calle-Saari is one of the Midwest’s most important printmakers.

Oasis of Escapism – New Work by Susanna Harris

Based in Columbus, Ohio, Susanna Harris is an interdisciplinary artist who works in print media and installation. She uses her own personal and collective experiences with loss, disease and grief to explore the interconnectedness of ecological destruction, human fragility and resilience.

Nature’s Underside: Of Bones, Beasts, and Breath-Taking – Work by Martha G. Michael

Martha Michael uses details from the natural world as the starting point for the meditative process of materials-intensive image-making in media as varied as encaustic, painting, metals and photography.

Homecoming: New Works by Amy Haggard
Oct. 30, 2022 – Jan. 15, 2023

Amy Haggard, also known as The Makist, is a 2001 graduate of Ohio Dominican University. Her vibrantly colored works depicting graphic patterns and organic shapes evoke comparison with late Matisse in both appearance and in the pursuit of the creation of joy for the viewer. For Amy, art is play, constant experimentation, and an unending curiosity that she wants to share with the viewer.

Path:Making | The Work of Krista Benedetti and Karen Albanese Campbell
Feb. 26 – April 7, 2023

Kirsta Benedetti and Karen Albanese Campbell explore the world of the immigrant and refugee. Benedetti, a painter and mixed media artist, and Campbell, a printmaker, address this important topic as women, mothers and artists.

  • My Story; My Song: New Work by Creative Women of Color 
    Oct. 31, 2021 – Jan. 17, 2022

    Opening reception: 1-3:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 31, 2021

    Formed in 2006 in Columbus, Ohio, Creative Women of Color consists of a group of African American women artists whose styles range from folk to abstract, and from fiber and textiles to working with metals and acrylic resins. This exhibit celebrates the artists’ commonalities and reflects their vast experiences as African American women representing different personal and professional backgrounds.

  • Women Carry the Weight of the World: Pandemic Work by Eliana Calle-Saari

    An instructor ¶º±ÈÖ±²¥, Saari is one of the region’s most important and recognized printmakers. In March 2020, she traveled to Antiga to move her daughter home from medical school; however, she remained unable to leave the island for nearly 90 days after it closed its borders due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Amidst food shortages and electrical outages, Saari drew and created woodcuts of Antigan women carrying food, bags, children and animals. She saw this as a metaphor for women carrying the weight of the world.

Just as Life Itself: New Work by Julie Abijanac
Feb. 14 – April 5, 2020

Julie Abijanac is a highly acclaimed sculptor whose work deals with her personal struggle with cancer. She creates digital drawings and paper or fiber sculptures that explore the systematic development of cancer cell metastasis in the human body. These meticulous studies become three-dimensional forms in space, safely removed from the human body.

Have You Got a Pulse? A ceramic sculpture installation by Terri Maloney-Houston

Terri Maloney-Houston is a nationally recognized and award-winning ceramist and community educator. The works in this exhibition were created after the artist experienced the unexpected loss of a loved one. The pieces became meditations on the physical human body in various states—whole, broken and pieced together, and abstracted.


I AM: Exploring Spiritual Connectivity through Fiber - An installation by Celeste Malvar-Stewart

Celeste Malvar-Stewart is an internationally recognized independent sustainable fashion and textiles designer whose work for the gallery features various pieces of hand-felted and naturally dyed garments, as well as hand-spun wall hangings that utilize fiber as a way to explore and create a visual representation of God's presence in our daily lives, and to interpret the constant guidance present in the universe.

Anne Cushman is a prolific and technically-masterful printmaker and educator, and a co-founder of Columbus’s nationally-recognized Phoenix Rising Print Cooperative. Cushman’s recent work focuses on designs and patterns in nature, and how our presence imposes itself on the environment.

Delhi to Jaipur: Recent Work by Nicholas Hill

An internationally-recognized printmaker and curator, and 2017 Guggenheim Fellow, Nicholas Hill’s work explores history, other cultures, and the creative processes of artists in those cultures.

The Art program at Ohio Dominican University prepares the next generation of smart, innovative, and conscientious art professionals to become leaders in the local community and, ultimately, the world at large. Students ¶º±ÈÖ±²¥ curate, design and install exhibitions, as well as exhibit their own work. ODU offers majors and minors in Art and Graphic Design, along with a minor in Art History.

Ohio Dominican University Art major, Jes Moore, explains how she uses beeswax to create wonderful and beautiful works of art.
